Psychodynamic Personality Theories Essay

Contemporary society is fascinated with the thought of human conduct as it communicates as a part of our character. Psychoanalytic model is generally noted for thoughtful methodologies, for example, profundity meeting and projective procedures, which have radiated from its hypothetical point of view. Old style psychoanalytic conceptualization moved toward the investigation of character or character in two altogether different ways, each getting from an early hypothetical model of individual turn of events. In the period of Freud’s unique drive hypothesis, an endeavor was made to comprehend character based on obsession. Later with the improvement of sense of self brain science, character was imagined as communicating the activity of specific styles of protection. This second method of understanding character was not in struggle with the main; it gave an alternate arrangement of thoughts and illustrations for grasping what was implied by a sort of character (Magnavita, 2002). The contemporary psychodynamic model of character is extremely famous, especially with clinical experts, and offers a lot of that is helpful for conceptualizing character and individual issue. The quality of this model appears to lie in the intensity of a significant number of its key builds, for example, the oblivious, protection frameworks, and the connection among part character structures. It is difficult to envision a brain science of character without some reference to these and different develops. The impediments of this model are many. Sadly, following quite a while of sustaining itself in a shut framework, an emergency created about the suitability of this model. Another downside is the propensity to shun experimental research, which would have set up more extensive logical acknowledgment. For some, the conceptualizations and exclusive language make it hard to drench oneself in what appears to be an opinionated intellectualized framework for the individuals who take cover behind language. Taking everything into account realizing where to roughly put a person on the basic continuum is as much a clinical craftsmanship as a science. Reference Magnavita, J. J. (2002). Sewing Machines Believed to Contain Red Mercury

Do you have an old Singer sewing machine? If so, it may be worth $50,000. BBC reported on a sewing machine hoax in Saudia Arabia in which people rushed to buy old Singer sewing machines based on the belief that they might contain red mercury. No one knows for sure where the rumor started, much less the more curious rumor that you can hold your mobile phone up to a sewing machine to somehow detect the presence of red mercury. The story goes you will lose your signal if you hold your phone up to the needle of a sewing machine that contains red mercury. What Is Red Mercury? Its a fabled substance that might be used to produce nuclear weapons, ward off evil spirits, or help you find treasure, depending on who you ask. There is no real proof that red mercury exists, except perhaps as cinnabar or vermillion (HgS) or mercury(II) iodide, either of which you can purchase sans sewing machine for a much lower price. Still, if you have your old Singer up for auction at eBay, it might fetch a higher price than you were expecting. If youre considering buying an old Singer, save your pennies until after the scam has run its course. Sources Lee, Rensselaer (May 1997). Smuggling update. Strategic Management ALDI Situational Analysis

Question: Discuss about theStrategic Managementfor ALDIs Situational Analysis. Answer: Introduction Albrecht Discounts, also referred to as ALDI is a German retailer that was established in 1913. The company was established by Karls and Theos mother. The company did not experience success until the 30s when the two brothers took over the business. For operations purposes, the company is divided into ALDI South and North. However, the two divisions share information about important aspects of operation. In Australia, the company operates as ALDI South and is a perfect example of an efficient retailer (ALDI Australia, 2017). The company offers value for money to its customers, especially in household products sector. Some factors that enable the company to offer low cost products of relatively high quality to customers are offering a limited range of products and minimal customer service (Hill and Jones, 2013). ALDIs strategy focuses on minimizing cost. The benefits are passed down to customers to cultivate behaviour of repeated purchase. The Australian market is a competitive one, and other major player, such as Woolworth and Coles apply a similar strategy. ALDI also applies a differentiation strategy. For example, unlike its competitors who focus on supplying predominantly Australian products, the company supplies products from European countries at relatively cheap prices; therefore, the company has both a differentiation and cost leadership strategy (Scholz and Zentes, 2013). Strategy and Context One aspect of ALDI that enable the company to offer products at low cost is its focus on cutting the cost of operation. Most ALDI stores in Australia are located in the outskirts of cities where land is cheap. This offers low competitive advantage when compared to other companies such as Woolworth that have stores in prime areas. The company uses inexpensive material to build its stores, which also offer low competitive advantage because this is a onetime investment. Products in the stores are displayed on pallets in their original packaging, which reduces labour requirements (ALDI, 2017). Offering products in their original package offers high competitive advantage because each store employs few employees, which is a recurring expenditure. A typical ALDI store in the country employs four to five people, which is in contrast to other competitors who employ an average of 15 employees. Stores stock an average of 700 products, which is in contrast to other stores that stock products in the range of 30,000 products in one store. Most of the products stocked in ALDI stores are products consumed on a daily basis in households, such as fruits, milk, and vegetables. Fewer products in ALDI stores mean the company has a smaller warehouse relative to its competitors. This offers high competitive advantage because it is easy to manage a small inventory. ALDI stores have an average area of 1,200 M2, which is in contrast to the average size of its competitors stores that are around 5,000 M2. Unlike other companies, ALDI does not provide free shopping bags. It encourages its customers to come with their own bags or to buy one and use it the next time they visit the store. Another strategy the company uses to reduce operating cost is having each customer return his or her shopping cart to the original place where it is suppose to be. The company charges a 2 dollar deposit that is refunded when one returns the shopping cart. This reduces the cost associated with returning the shopping cart because less fuel is used and few man hours are dedicated to this activity. This offers high competitive advantage. Since the inception of the company, avoiding unnecessary cost has been a focus of the business (Metzger, 2014). For example, Theo, one of the companys co-founder placed emphasizes to switching the lights off during the day to cut the cost of power. While this might seem like a stingy move for such a large company, considering the saving the company makes through such a simpl e activity puts things into perspective. It is also better for the company to reduce expense on unnecessary things such as store lighting and services such as catering for customers shopping carts rather than compromise on quality. ALDI does not only offer low cost products to the Australian market, but also sets itself apart from its competitors using a differentiation strategy. The differentiation strategy focuses on cost, processes, merchandise, distribution, and market segmentation (Klaas Jagersma, 2008). ALDI is unique in the sense that it aggressively pursues cost reduction but does not compromise on quality. The company also pays it employees relatively high rates compared to the industry standards. ALDI employees receive 19.10 dollars per hour, which is higher than the industry standard of 15 dollars per hour. ALDI maintains current customers and attract new customers by offering quality products at low prices. For example, the cost of one kilogram of bananas in an ALDI store is 1.69 dollars, which is less than 1.98 and 2.75 dollars in Woolworth and Coles respectively. The low cost of quality products also discourages new entrants into the industry (Simon, 2015). Current Strategic Approach Porters five forces play an essential role in the competitiveness and profitability of the grocery industry and ALDI. They include bargaining power of customers and suppliers, threats from new entrants and substitute products, and competitive rivalry between players in the industry (Competitive Forces (Porter's Five Forces), n.d.). The five forces determine ALDIs market share and are important in making strategic decisions. Entrance of new grocery stores into the market such as Wal-Mart or local farmer can eat into ALDIs market share and affect the bottom-line. The company counters this challenge by collaborating with local farmers to provide fresh products to consumers. ALDI offers farmers competitive prices, which means they lack incentive to sell products directly to consumers. The company also keeps prices very low; therefore, it is unlikely for established companies, such as Wal-Mart to venture into the Australian market because of the low profits margin and return on investment (Gerhard and Hahn, 2005). The threat of new companies entering the Australian market is low because of the low profit margins and the competitive offers give to the farmers in the country. ALDI faces minimal threat in substitute products because of the nature of products it offers. The company offers everyday household products, such as milk and vegetables. However, a patented product that gains popularity in the Australian market could be a significant issue for the company. This is a moderate threat to the company because of the popularity of processed food products in the country. Existing companies in the country such as Woolworth and Coles brand their products and continuously developing innovative products. ALDI faces medium threat from substitute products. Customer bargaining power is an important factor in ALDIs strategy. Different stores offer products at different prices depending on location and purchasing power of consumers in the locality. Different stores may also stock different products depending on the taste and preferences of customers in the locality (Choi and Fredj, 2013). For example, before ALDI sets up a store in a new location, the company condu cts a market analysis to determine the cost and availability of the products it offers in the location. The company also collects information about the cost of different products before fixing its prices. Customer bargaining power is a low threat to ALDI because the Australian population is price sensitive and the company offers the lowest prices in the country. ALDI considers the bargaining power of suppliers in a location before setting up a store. For example, if a supplier enjoys monopoly, the supplier is unlikely to place emphasis on quality or offer competitive prices. Suppliers have an influence on the price and quality of final products. ALDI deals with common household products that are produced by multiple farms within a single locality. The company also imports a considerable share of its products from Europe. Therefore, the individual bargaining power of a single supplier is relatively low. The main competitors of ALDI in the Australian market are Coles and Woolworth. The companys can develop new strategies that result in higher quality at lower prices than ALDI. ALDI has to ensure it maintains a capacity to response to new strategy development from its rivals to maintain and grow its market share (Bakucs, Fa?kowski and Fert?, 2013). The company faces a high threat from its competitors because they is a possibility of the compani es merging or adjusting their strategy to mirror ALDIs strategy. The three generic strategies ALDI implements to maintain a competitive edge in the industry include cost leadership, differentiation, and focus. The strategies are implemented at a business level to maintain a competitive advantage. The generic strategies enable the business to leverage its strengths to mitigate the effects of the five porter forces discussed above. The competitive nature of the grocery industry in Australia and the limited forms of products that companies can offer means the industry is a pure competitive one. Profits margins are very low: therefore, companies that are performing well such as ALDI have normal profits. ALDI has adopted inventory management technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), intelligent scale, self check-out machine, electronic shelf labelling, and wireless devices (B?lescu, 2013) to reduce operating cost further and grow profit margins. The combined effect of the Porters five forces mean the Australian grocery industry is a l ow-profit industry characterised by aggressive competition and advertising to maintain and grow market share. Fit Between ALDIs Strategy and its Goals and Expectations ALDI has a unique business model that focuses on bringing high quality products to consumers at low prices. This is possible because of numerous innovations and efficiencies that the company has instituted at different levels of operation. ALDI stores offer consumers commonly purchased household products at the common size and packaged in an environmentally friendly design with cost saving in mind. Majority of the products offered in ALDI stores are exclusive brands that are designed to meet and exceed consumer expectations (Nenycz-Thiel, 2011). By requiring customers to bring their shopping bags or buy one at the store, the company is not only cutting on cost, but also saving the environment. Since customers are required to rent and return their carts after shopping, the time and money spend retrieving carts is significantly reduced. Such savings are directly transferred to customers. The modest size of ALDI stores in Australia means the company eliminates non-essential services that increase operating cost, which directly affects the cost of products in stores. By capturing the essence of saving and conservation in its stores, ALDI is able to offer products at competitive prices. Offering products in packaging they come in and displaying them on pallets means the company spends less time and resources displaying and re-packaging products. ALDI stores require few employees because products are not displayed on shelves and are not repackaged. This translates to savings, which is in line with the companys goal of offering quality products at competitive prices (Semeijn, van Riel and Ambrosini, 2004). ALDI stores also do not operate 24 hours a day, which means the company spends less on rent, labour, and energy. The companys division structure also plays an important role in the efficient and effective operation of the business. ALDI has a flat management structure. A flat management structure encourages the open flow of ideas and enables leaders to be familiar with their subordinates. This means the decision-making process is effective and talent is easily recognised in the company (Wortmann, 2004). The company has a policy of promoting from within, which means employees are motivated to put in their best because their performance plays a role in their promotion and end of year bonuses. Recommendations The future of global brands is vertical integration. More companies are appreciating the importance of vertical integration and the role it plays in not only securing a leading position but also offering competitive prices to customers. ALDI can take advantage of it size and profitability to invest in other levels in its production chain to ensure it compiles profits at different levels and pass on benefits to the consumers (Chou, 2014). For example, the company can invest in farming of vegetables and fruits. This will not only guarantee supply, but also enable the company to avail the products to customers at lower prices because the profit margin of the producing level is not included in such a system. ALDI can also be more competitive in the Australian market by opening up small satellite stores in cities and densely populated areas under a major store in the area. The stores can be replenished daily from the main store depending on the preferences of consumers in its vicinity. References ALDI, 2017.ALDI Initiatives - ALDI Australia. [online] Aldi.com.au. Araby, James Joyce Essays - Araby, James Joyce, Dubliners

Araby, James Joyce Comment on the narrative voice of the story. Why does the boy get disillusioned at the end of the story? Does the confrontation with the reality take place only at the end? At what moment in the story and in what details does he confront the actual? The narrative voice of Araby by James Joyce is the author taking on the role of a male whose name is never mentioned. From the description of the setting we learn that he lives with his aunt and uncle in a working class area of Dublin. In the beginning of the story we are led to believe that he is a boy, playing in the streets with his friends as children do The career of our play brought us through the dark muddy lanes ?. (Joyce, page 105). This same beginning if looked into in depth can also tell us a little about his overall view on life and himself. He mentions the uninhabited house at the end of the street ?detached from its neighbors ? (Joyce, page 105). This gives us the illusion that he sees himself detached from the rest of the neighbors and feeling alone. He also makes mention of being conscious of the houses around him and of the decent lives within them. Maybe what he is saying is that he does not see his life as decent because he is having all these thoughts about Mangan's sister. He has all these bottled up emotions that he can not share with anyone and this makes him feel alone hence, the mention of the house standing alone. As the story progresses we come to realize that he is not a boy but a young adolescent who is fighting feelings of love for the girl next door. Thinking of her constantly, even in the most unromantic places like shopping with his aunt in the market place or standing in the small back room where the priest had died, obsesses him. He sums up his feelings for her perfectly when he says But my body was like a harp and her words and gestures were like fingers running upon the wires. (Joyce, page 106). At the end of the story the young adolescent gets disillusioned because he sees Araby as a mission set upon him by the girl, who after speaking to her for the first time asks if he is going to Araby and he replies that If I go, ?.. I will bring you something. (Joyce, page 106) The young man has gone through so much stress and anxiety in one day to get to Araby in order to buy the gift and everything has gone wrong. He is angry with himself for being so vain in the sense that when the girl at the stall approaches him she does not give him her undivided attention thus causing him to say he does not want to buy anything, when in reality that is what he was there for. So he leaves Araby empty handed except for the two pennies and the sixpence in his pocket. His disillusionment could also be in the form that once seeing the girl at the stall he realized that Mangan's sister could very well be just like this girl and not the saintly figure with the halo of light around her that he has alwa ys seen her as. There is confrontation with reality throughout the whole story. Starting with the description of his neighborhood and the changing of the season, and progressing through various events in life, like his feelings towards the girl, the death of the priest, his uncle being late and so on. In my opinion the moment in the story when he confronts the actual is when he is in the back room where the priest died. It is a rainy night, he can hear the rain as it falls into the puddles on the ground all his senses are alert and he presses his hand together so hard that they trembled and says Oh love! O love (Joyce, page 106). Here instead of keeping his feelings locked inside him, he actually speaks the word of his adoration for the girl, and even though no one is

How effectively did the Nazis deal with their political opponents Essay Example

How effectively did the Nazis deal with their political opponents Essay Example How effectively did the Nazis deal with their political opponents Essay How effectively did the Nazis deal with their political opponents Essay Hitler didnt wait for after his consolidation of power to gather information about the Marxists. So by the time of the Reichstag fire [27th February 1933] he had all information about the communists, including their whereabouts and this made it easier for him to arrest all of them in one night. After the Reichstag fire, which was supposedly a communist uprising started by Marinus van der Lubbe, was a two month purge of all communists. They were taken to local prisons, concentration camps or worst still, torture chambers set up by the SA [still in power before he Night of Long Knives] in homes. This was supposed to be a purge of the communists, but it showed that the SA was powerful enough to arrest anyone who dared to oppose the Nazi regime. This whole purge was called preventive detention, i. e. imprisoning people who harmed the state to prevent them from further doing so, but it was an open threat to opposition so that theyd either convert to Nazism or be way to frightened to ever oppose the Nazis. Hitler didnt get rid of only the communists, he also effectively ealt with the Social Democrats and accused them and the center party of being communists. Jews were also included in this purge. Its said that he sent out instructions to arrest those who have been especially active in the political scenario. By late 1933, the Nazis had wiped out strong opposition organization in addition to closing down trade unions. The KPD [communist party] was forcibly disbanded; other parties disbanded themselves for fear of being confronted by the Nazis. Seizing this opportunity, Hitler banned all parties and the reation of new parties. Having a political meeting was considered to be a criminal offense. Political opposition was now divided and those who werent arrested went underground or fled, so there was little political resistance for more than a decade. It was easy to squelch the communists as they werent as strong as the communists in Russia, they had no strong leader with equal caliber or status as that of Stalin and they did not have a wide network of strong organizations. They were popular, as in well known, only ecause people were against them. Germans feared communist rule in Germany and were willing to let the Nazis repress the KPD. The KPD was greatly weakened by the fact that they took orders from the Moscow communists who insisted on a passive policy towards the Nazis as they [especially Stalin] thought Nazi rule would collapse very soon, and the communists would be victorious in Germany. They didnt know how Hitlers dictatorship and policies operated and adopted a rather casual, passive attitude towards the Nazis. The iggest blow to communists actually came with the [ironic] Nazi-Soviet Pact [1939]]. The Socialists were also weak and were easy prey for Hitler. After the depression, even trade unions were crippled and so the weapon of the socialists, a general strike, wasnt possible, so they couldnt use mass action against Hitler. Plus they had hardly any contacts with the establishment and were thus easily marginalized. Thus Hitler used clever manipulation, and played on the weak points his opposition, to ultimately get rid of them.

International Human Rights Apply Equally, Despite Cultural Differences Essay

International Human Rights Apply Equally, Despite Cultural Differences - Essay Example xile; right to a fair and public hearing by an impartial tribunal; to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise; freedom from arbitrary interference with his family or home; freedom from attacks on his honor and reputation; freedom of movement and residence within the borders of his country; freedom to leave and return to his country; freedom to seek asylum and to flee persecution; right to a nationality4. Article 16 also emphasizes that men and women of legal age who have no limitations to marry have the right to marry and start a family; to own property and to associate with others; freedom of thought, conscience and religion; freedom of opinion and expression; peaceful assembly and association; to choose government officials; to access public services; to social security; to choose their work and to enjoy just and favorable work conditions, including equal pay for equal work; to rest and leisure; right to a standard of living sufficient for his health and well being (food, cloth ing, shelter, medical care, and social services); to education; to freely participate in the cultural life of the community; and to social and international order where rights can be realized. These rights are also in line with a person’s duties in the community. These rights are subject to limitations as determined by law and in line with the recognition of the rights of others and of ensuring morality, public order, and general welfare5. In effect, these rights are not absolute and they still have to be evaluated in terms of their impact on public order and morality. Universality of human rights Human rights, as discussed by some circles are said to be endowed to individuals by the mere reason of being human6. Rights are means by which members of society participate in the activities in... This essay has sought to present an academic understanding of international human rights as they come into conflict with the people’s culture. The premise that international human rights apply equally, despite cultural differences, is a premise which is clouded with much controversy, with different nations and cultures clashing with the ideal standards of the international community. The principle of non-interference and state sovereignty is being used as a defense for these nations who seemingly violate these international human rights. This report makes a conclusion that the practices set forth as human rights violations may not actually be considered as violations for peoples which have made these practices a part of their culture. Nevertheless, based on the mandates of the UN Charter, these are deemed violations of human rights. Based on the above discussion, there is a need to set forth universal human rights in order to prevent the violations of such rights which are unf airly justified under culture and traditions. Allowing said violations to remain uncorrected is a dangerous practice to carry out because these practices may further support the dictatorial and abusive regimes of governments. In effect, although there are inherent dangers which are expected with the implementation of standard human rights, the gains are very much beneficial to most cultures and to the citizens of the world. This paper stresses that modern international human rights law as was previously discussed was conceptualized as a response to the atrocities carried out during and prior to the Second World War.

Sleep, napping and cyrcadian dysrhythmia in aviation Essay

Sleep, napping and cyrcadian dysrhythmia in aviation - Essay Example If fatigue is caused by a longer time period the reaction will be seen in timing errors in response sequences or less smooth control. While it will result in reducing the attention which will affect the preoccupation with single tasks or elements or even reducing audiovisual scan. Fatigue can also cause diminished memory which will lead in forgetting peripheral tasks or even reverting to â€Å"old† habit patterns. While withdrawn mood results in, less likeliness of conversing and less likely to perform low-demand tasks Circadian rhythms  are intrinsic biological clock with regular changes in mental and physical characteristics occurring every 24 to 25 hours. Many of these bodily circadian rhythms are controlled by the body’s biological "clock." This includes blood pressure, heart rate, core body temperature etc. The typical circadian cycle, performance peaks between 12pm and 9pm and falls to a minimum circadian trough between 03am and 06am. As the body clock is inherently capable of monitoring the passage of time, it differs from most clocks in that its period is flexible and must be set, or synchronized, before it can accurately predict the timing of periodic environmental events. Entrainment is accomplished by external synchronizers, Zeitgebers like at sunrise or sunset, ambient temperature, meals or by social cues. Circadian rhythm  is a modern problem and is symptomology. It directly affects our performances, mood, motivation, and behavior. It also results in sleep disturbances, lassitude, anxiety, irritability, and depression. While sometime it has slow reaction times, defective memory for recent events, errors in computations, and a tendency to accept lower standards of performance. So, if someone is rapidly traveling from one time zone to another, the body clock and rhythms it controls must resynchronize to the local geophysical and social zeitgebers. For example eastward travel shortens the day while westward travel

Wieden and Kennedy Essay Example for Free

Wieden and Kennedy Essay Chapter 1: The agency and how it fits within the context of the industry W+K Inc. is an independent, full service, creatively driven advertising agency based in Portland, Oregon. W+K was founded by Dan Wieden and David Kennedy in 1998. Upon working together, the duo recognized great similarities in their advertising philosophies and nurtured a strong business relationship that led them into creating their own advertising agency. Since the establishment of W+K on April 1st, 1982, the company has grown to become one of the world’s leading creative agencies with offices in the United States (Portland and New York), Amsterdam, London, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Shanghai and Delhi. W+K has been built around the founders’ common tendency to break from the status quo advertising with intention of creating a firm and solid relationship between their clients and their customers. The business structure was formed around the ambition to provide an environment where employees would be able to produce their best work, and in turn offer a diversity of talent unparalleled by any other agency. Till this day the company continues to acknowledge and give credit to its staff for the agency’s superb creative reputation, as its shows below of some of their most prestigious and prized awards that have allowed them to propel the agency and therefore becoming a tough competitor to compete with, within the industry. Few factors that sets them apart from their competitors, are show below: The picture on the left shows â€Å"the 2012 Creativity awards report†. You can clearly see that the most successful creativity agency is W+K, Winning the Best Creative director of 2012, the best campaign along with best advertising agency in the world, compared to some of their competitors such as ServicePlan Munich, BBH and BETC EURO RSCG. Furthermore to prove why they are the top competitor within the industry; they’ve recently been voted by ‘ADWEEK’ the â€Å"Agency of the year† and from the picture on the left you can see some of the many awards they’ve won due to their innovative and creative work. What makes W+K so successful compared to other competitors, is arguably a result of the companys arcane understanding of current trends and, as of more recently, digital media such as ‘Social networking’ websites. The agency has latched onto the idea of making advertisements for its major clients that go the distance. For example, More recent success for the agency can be found in their current Old Spice campaign titled, ‘The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,’ which recently won the 2010 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Commercial. This campaign featured former professional football player Isaiah Mustafa to rebrand your grandfathers cologne into a modern mega-b rand beloved by young and middle-aged men alike. Isaiahs swagger and strange but enticing acting captivated the country by means of the agencys knowledge of the digital marketing. The campaign generated more than 94 million views for the brands YouTube spots, over 90,000 additional Twitter followers, and up to 675,000 Facebook fans. Another reason for W+K success is down to the co-founder and global president Dan Wieden attributes that creative consistency to building a culture that’s â€Å"just more fun than you can believe and harder than hell. That generates ideas, great enthusiasm and new ways of looking at old issues.† They hire some of the most talented people from around the world, where they are trained by experienced ad gurus and moulded around the agencies goals, to ensure they come up with the most innovative, unique and outstanding advertising campaigns for their clients. Although they can come-up with the most unique and the most creative ideas; but what they do better than anyone else, according to Ian Armstrong- Honda, is that they: â€Å"Truly ‘understand’ who we are as a client, to a point where they feel more like long-standing Honda employees than an agency. It is wonderful to see them truly immersing themselves in our business, even if that does mean racing cars around the track most of the time!’ – This is the main reason why W+K stands out from the crowd as they have a strong desire to protect the truth in communicating the brand values and objectives, whilst keeping a unique voice in a crowded market. W+K uniqueness in the industry, their success and the reason why they’re the top competitors, can be seen below through the eyes of their clients: Chapter 2: The different roles within the agency: The process of creating a TV ad for Honda The first stage of the process starts when the Client calls and asks to arrange a meeting with the Account management of W+K. The account management of W+K are responsible for getting their clients messages across the public and they act as the main point of contact between the agency and the client. More importantly, Account management will ensure that project are completed on time, and within budget, whilst ensuring they create a sociable and friendly relationship with the clients. The strategic planner will than consult work with the client, to discover what the real business problem is that they’re trying to solve. The planner would also find and draw conclusions from factors such as the consumer wants, needs , behaviours, that are then conducted through exhaustive market research and testing. For example the strategic planner of W+K was given a brief from Honda which was to: With this in mind, the strategic planners must incorporate research from focus groups, survey’s, questionnaires, in order to aid them, in development of the overall advertising strategy. From their in-depth research on Honda they discovered that: Based on the research shown above the planner than concludes by detailing how the goals will be achieved. When the communication brief is created, it would outline and instruct the W+K creative team on where they need to advertise, who they need to be targeting and the message that they want to send. The communication brief states: With the needs understood, the strategic planners of W+K would then travel to the headquarters of Honda, in japan in order to gain insight to what this car manufacturing company is all about and also to help them generate a marketing strategy. With strategy in place and the client’s approval of the strategy, the next step of the process would be providing down all these valuable information about Honda to the creative directors and designers of W+K. Tony Davidson: Executive Creative directorKim Papworth: Executive creative director The main roles of creative directors within W+K, are to be responsible for the overall supervision of the agencies creative products, meaning they will be monitoring progress, discussing ideas and suggesting changes. The directors will than arrange a meeting, where they would be presenting the client’s needs and wants to the design directors and then pass down through to junior designers, in order for them to generate some creative ideas. The creative minds of W+K were than able to turn the â€Å"The power of dreams† and â€Å"telling the truth about Honda† marketing strategy into cleverly thought out campaign called â€Å"Hate something, Change something†. The overall Honda communications strategy is about simply getting the truths of Honda out there. This strategy led them into discovering an interesting truth; the diesel engine from the company that hated diesel engines. During the two years that W+K having been working with Honda, sales have consistently beaten industry expectations and brand tracking has been incredibly satisfying. Thanks to creative minds of W+K, Honda beat brands like Ford, VW, Renault and Toyota. Honda’s voice is now in the public domain, and they’re starting to mean more than small, dull, reliable cars. Most of this was down to a fantastic client and agency team and some inspired creative thinking. But I believe the new ways they’ve invented to integrate strategic and creative thinking made a significant contribution to their success. Chapter 3: The agencies clients and case study of a client and campaign of your choice with critical analysis According to Nike company lore, one of the most famous and easily recognized slogans in advertising history was coined at a 1988 meeting of Nike’s ad agency W+K and a group of Nike employees. Launched in August of 1988, Nikes â€Å"Just Do It† tagline was conceived by W+K. â€Å"Just Do It† is without a doubt one of the most Powerful lines in marketing, which Dan Wieden credits the inspiration for his â€Å"Just Do It† slogan to Gary Gilmores last word, â€Å"Let’s Do it†. â€Å"After stumbling badly against archrival Reebok in the 1980s, Nike rose about as high and fast in the ‘90s. It took on a new religion of brand consciousness and broke advertising sound barriers with its indelible Swoosh, â€Å"Just Do It† slogan and deified sports figures. Nike managed the deftest of marketing tricks: to be both anti-establishment and mass market, to the tune of $9.2 billion dollars in sales in 1997.† —Jolie Soloman â€Å"When Nike Goes Cold† Newsweek, March 30, 1998 From the above source you can see that before the creation of the â€Å"Just Do It† Campaign, Nike was losing ground to Reebok and other competitors, therefore something had to be done to get them back on track. With the help of W+K and its â€Å"Just Do it† Campaign and Nike’s strong products, they were able to increase its share of the domestic sport-shoe business from 18 % to 43 %, from $877 million in worldwide sales to $9.2 billion in the t en years between 1988 and 1998. Thanks to the creative mind of W+K Nike were able to gain a stronger brand to expand their market share, command higher prices and generate more revenue than its competitors. The main message behind this campaign is to get everyone urgently too loose weight by either: running miles, joining a sports team and basically not being lazy and being productive in their lives. What Just Do it, means is that they want you to ‘Just do it!’ don’t think twice and don’t have second thoughts start exercising!. The main success of the â€Å"Just Do It† campaign was the timing, when Nike was able to tap into the fitness craze of the 1980’s, by releasing a tough, take-no prisoners ad campaign that practically shamed people into exercising, and more importantly, to exercising in Nikes. They propelled their campaigns by endorsing celebrities such as Michael Jordan, who is considered the best basketball player of his time. Nike were than able to cleverly use the success of Michael Jordan, to create a whole new line of Nike apparel coined, â€Å"Air-Jordan†, which persuaded the customers into believing that his shoes were performance enhancers. In their TV advertisements with the basketball star, there were several instances where at the end of the ad, they concluded, â€Å"It must be the shoes† that makes his success. Along with Jordan’s rise to fame, Nike was able to tap into the spot light. Where ever Jordan succeeded, Nike was close behind offering the swoosh and the healthy saying of â€Å"Just do it.† Celebrity endorsement also helped to forge a relationship with the consumers, whilst also appealing to their sense of belonging and â€Å"hipness†. Nike went on to become a self-fulfilling image prophecy: meaning if you want to be hip, wear Nike; if you are hip, you are probably wearing Nike. The â€Å"Just Do It† campaign was able to turn sweaty, pain-ridden, time-consuming exercise in Nike sneakers into something sexy and exciting. Perhaps most importantly, even those who were not in fact exercising in Nikes (the vast majority) still wanted to own them. By focusing on the aura and image conveyed by the fitness culture, Nike was able to attract those who wanted the image without incurring the pain. Chapter 4: The agency as a Brand and rational for why it fits to you as brand The company’s personality, culture, and style resonate greatly with me; it’s about thinking outside the box, forgetting the rules, and bringing out the best in its team. ‘Thinking outside the box’ is one thing that I try to apply in life, as it allows me to think differently to others, see things from different prospective and not being afraid to try something that seems different. From the in-depth research that I’ve completed, there is a little doubt remaining that W+K has proven itself continuously throughout the past three decades as a leader and bar setting agency in the advertising world across the globe. W+K attention to detail and their commitment to hiring only the best employees comes through strongly in their work. While modern marketing expects an understanding of digital media and popular culture, to truly push the boundaries of what is achievable, a deeper current understanding is needed. As an agency, its collective critical eye into the vortex of technology, commercial art, and all types of media gives Wieden + Kennedy the advantage of foresight into campaign ideas that otherwise would go undiscovered by their competitors. Ben Franklin :: essays research papers

Throughout history icons emerge in each era that define that time, men who define the thinking, technology, culture, religion, and every other aspect of that time period. From the time of ancient Greece which possessed such prodigies as Socrates, and Aristotle men who were not only brilliant philosophers but also historians, mathematicians, and astronomers. To the Revolutionary period of America, which held such courageous enlightened men such as Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, and Benjamin Franklin. Men who greatly helped shape America’s independence. A man who stands out among these names is â€Å" The First American†, Benjamin Franklin who goes beyond being simply an icon of America’s conquest for freedom, but is truly an American hero. Benjamin Franklin’s heroism exists in his numerous achievements in politics, his scientific inventions, and his accomplishment of truly being â€Å"The First American†. Franklin’s contributions to the world of inventions, and science prove his ideal heroism. Some of Franklin’s contributions include his improvements on Franklin’s stove, he invented the Pennsylvania fireplace, which retained and dispersed heat evenly in a room. Franklin shaped perhaps the first idea of electricity; he also helped improved city’s pavements, street lighting, sanitations, fire companies, and police. These are a small amount of Franklin’s more material accomplishments, but they are also some of his strongest. Franklin is considered an American hero because although he was a politician, he felt the need to go above and beyond his regular duties. Franklin strived for perfection and had a strong to desire to help his fellow man. Whether it was improving the quality of his community by looking at such common aspects like city pavement, or street lights, or by making a large technological breakthrough and creating something like the musical a rmonica. Although Ben Franklin’s heroism was never symbolized in any battle, it was largely seen with his constant attempts in the world of science and innovation. Benjamin Franklin used an expressed his high level of intelligence for others to learn and prosper from him. Although Franklin’s use and discoveries in science and innovation are well-rounded accomplishments, he is most credited for his actions in political office. Benjamin Franklin’s ethical right mind helped shape our nation today. Franklin believed that America had to separate itself from its control under Great Britain. Perhaps Franklin’s most heroic act is the work he contributed to help make America the free nation it is today.

Intensive Mothering

Other writers, like Sharon Hays, mount descriptions of American mothering that implicitly criticize some of the facets of attachment parenting. After reading these authors' pieces alongside the work of attachment parenting proponents Like Lauren Lindsey Porter, William and Martha Sears, and Katie Allison Grange, do you believe that the critics' condemnation of attachment parenting Is fair? Does AP place undue demands on women? Why or why not? Questions to Ponder: Is attachment parenting synonymous with â€Å"intensive mothering? † Why or why not?Do you think attachment parenting always entails the type of parenting the authors criticize, or might aspects of attachment parenting in fact work against â€Å"intensive mothering? Is the rise of attachment parenting to blame for the stressful nature of motherhood in contemporary American society, or are other social structures at fault (e. G. Lack of maternity/family leave, lack of subsidized public childcare options, etc. )? Are t he practices AP promotes (co-sleeping, breastfeeding, and barreling, for example) problematic? Are they Incompatible with paid work? How does social class Influence the practice of attachment parenting, and do the authors myopically focus on the middle/upper-middle classes? Why do you think attachment parenting has been targeted as an object of criticism? Note that I do not expect you to answer all of these questions; I'm including them merely to give you a sense of some of the directions you might take with your Format and Specifications: In an approximately 4-5 page (1200-1500 word) paper, make a claim about whether or not you believe the critique of AP levied by the critics Is a fair and reasonable one, and why.The why Is as Important If not more Important than the stance Itself, and should play a part in your actual claim, so that your claim is not merely â€Å"the critique Your claim should be clear yet robust, and contestable, and you should draw on at east 2-3 of our in-class readings (note that you may use the Accredited and Blades and Rowe-Finickier readings on paid work and mothering as well) to support it. You should also cite at least one source that we have not read together as a class (more on that later), for a minimum of 3-4 sources. All of the papers you write for this class should adhere to MEAL guidelines both for citations (which will be parenthetical) and for the works cited page. Putting aside your entire life and giving up everything to satisfy the needs of your baby is not an easy or poses a huge responsibility on parents. In my opinion, the critiques condemnation of attachment parenting is not fair. I believe that the concept of attachment is reasonable and infant necessary for infants to develop into skilled, independent and mature individuals who share a strong emotional bond with their parents.First and foremost, it is essential to know what Attachment parenting is all about? It is ‘an approach of raising children who are well connected to their parents rather than a strict set of rules. ‘A common misconception that people have is considering intensive mothering to be a synonym for attachment parenting. Intensive mot hering is based on the idea of completely sacrificing your needs and desires and devoting our life to your child or in other words letting your child dictate your life. Most of the articles such as DRP. Laurel's neighborhood focuses on the extreme extent people go to in order to raise their child in the â€Å"perfect† way. The author in a rather sarcastic tone aims to make the readers realize that even in the sass's and ass's parents raised babies who turned out to be Just fine without the concern that they aren't spending enough time with their kids and needing to demonstrate in countless ways each and everyday that you really, really love your child'.It lays emphasis on the fact that if you re unable to provide technologically advanced gadgets like ‘Baby-Be-Safe Crib sheet or video surveillance cameras to keep a check on the nanny looking after your baby or electronic monitors to check the babies heart rate even before he is born' you are considered an incompetent pare nt.Attachment parenting on the other hand means ‘opening your mind and heart to the individual needs of your baby and letting your knowledge of your child be your guide to making on the spot decisions about what works best for both the mother and child, that is learning read the cues of your baby and responding appropriately to those uses. ‘ It encourages parents to find out which parenting style fits their lifestyle in the best way and modify what does not work for them. As sears says, â€Å"Like any Journey, parenting requires adjustments along the way. Attachment parenting does not pose undue demands on women in the sense that it is not compelling you to do all the seven Baby Bi's and being practical and realistic, if not impossible it is extremely difficult to do everything that is recommended. It mainly advises you to incorporate whatever makes the connection between you and your child stronger in your day to ay routine. Attachment parenting does not expect parents to spend 24 hours of a day Just attending to your child, instead it's the quality of time during which you are able to develop a feeling of trust and make your baby feel that he/she can rely on you for his needs.A frequently asked question that people have is won't the constant nursing and attention giving to your child be problematic? People feel tied down with the seven Bi's of attachment parenting and might consider them to be challenging. However, many attachment parents after being interviewed stated, â€Å"l feel so connected with y baby. † â€Å"l feel right when with her, not right when we're apart. † â€Å"l feel fulfilled. † The seven Bi's of baby wearing include, ‘breastfeeding, balance, beware of baby wearing and birth bonding. Attachment parenting is a very typical way of parenting and all these practices have been practiced all over the world for hundreds of years only recently these practices have been termed together as attachment parentin g. Though some people may consider the seven Baby Bi's to be highly problematic if they are working mothers but as stated earlier, it is not mandatory to follow all seven of them. For instance, I feel breastfeeding is essential for the health of the baby, moreover, ‘Current studies show that babies who are breast fed tend to be healthier, more secure and even score higher on IQ tests! In addition the bond between breastfeeding mom and baby tends to help form a secure attachment for the baby as he or she grows. Breastfeeding also tends to be an economical choice for many families. ‘ ‘A British study of 36 middle-class mothers and their three-year-olds found that securely-attached children scored 12 points higher on the Stanford-Bines intelligence test than did insecurely attached children (Crandall and Hobnobs 1999). Since research has proven that breastfeeding is vital for healthier growth of babies I think it would be unfair for those babies who are not breast-fed. Another topic that is highly debated over is whether a baby should co-sleep or not? Research has come to a conclusion that co sleeping reduces stress and anxiety levels among babies as they sleep in a safe and sound environment close to their parents. Co-sleeping may be a stress-reducer as well. A British study reports that children (aged 3-8) who slept in their parents' rooms showed lower daily levels of the stress hormone cortical (Wentworth 2007).Its is argued upon by people who say that it may be dangerous for the baby to sleep on the same bed as the parent and co sleeping may be spoiling the baby as it would not make him independent and the baby needs to learn how to sleep alone at some point. However, co-sleeping does not mean that the baby has to sleep on the same bed as the parent. The baby can sleep anywhere in the same room as the parents or in a crib right next to the parents bed it would still be considered co sleeping. The main idea is for the baby to be close to the par ents so that the parents can easily tend to the baby if needed. If pondered upon, intensive mothering is much more problematic in comparison to attachment parenting. Intensive mothering is Judging your capability as a mother on the basis of your ability to afford expensive and luxurious products. In that sense it can be said that attachment parenting is reasonable, as at least it is not expecting parents to go over the top to raise their child. All Attachment parenting is asking parents to do is treating your child with love and affection and to getting to know your child better. Which part of that is unreasonable or unfair for mothers? A child is not a machine; it is not inbuilt with functions neither goes it come into this wide world prepared to react to all the situations it is faced with. Parents need to understand what is going on the babies mind and respond accordingly. This can only be possible if the parent spends enough time with their baby. If parents are unable to find som e time out they should not to have a baby.As critiques put it, attachment parenting may pose undue demands on women, as she is the sole person who can provide the kind of care, love and attention that the baby is unable to devote herself to her babies needs when he/she needs it the most she is not ready for the challenges of motherhood. In western cultures, it is not an obligation for a married couple to have children. If both parents are professionals and have chosen their career over their family, it would be a wiser option not to have babies, as there is no point raising a child who is going to be neglected. In several parts of the world such as India, it is almost mandatory for a married couple to have children or else the family members along with the society raise questions and the mother is expected to leave everything aside and raise the baby. This is very customary in India, as my own grandfather did not let my mother continue with her equines, as he wanted her sole attentio n to be on raising her children. Therefore, a majority of the Indian babies are attachment parented. However, in countries like America, no one is putting a gun to your head to have a baby.It is entirely the couple's choice. Therefore, in conclusion, the fact remains that every individual is unique and one parenting style cannot fit everyone. I feel that a majority of the critiques â€Å"who tend to criticize attachment parenting don't really understand what attachment parenting is all about,† â€Å"So many studies show that if you meet the needs of a child when she's nouns, she will grow into becoming more independent. † Attachment parenting is a broad parenting style that promotes seven ways to get connected with your baby. Moreover, attachment parenting is exactly what has been practiced all over the world for years only now its been given a name; the only change that has occurred is that there has been a significant increase in the number of working mothers. Attachm ent parenting is criticized because it is thought to pose strenuous demands on working mothers but it is always possible to try to mix and match parenting style and figure out what works for them. It is not setting out a strict set of rules to raise a baby and above all it is because of its flexibility why I feel attachment parenting is fair and reasonable.
